Things To Do On
Isla Carenero

Surf, Beach, Eat, Repeat

Isla Carenero offers our guests easy access to some of Bocas del Toro’s best waves, restaurants, and things to do. There are a few nice beaches hidden throughout the island’s coast, and a few easy hiking trails to wander. When you’re ready to explore further, just hop on a water taxi from our private dock and be anywhere in minutes!

Surfing

From Casa del Fuego, you can grab your board and walk along the Carenero island path, which connects right behind the house. You can be at Black Rock and Old Mans within 7 minutes, and you can be at La Punta within 15 minutes. If you prefer to take a boat, you can just walk out to the end of our dock and catch a water taxi to any of the Carenero surf breaks. It will cost from $2-3 each way.

Scuba Diving with Panama Dive School

Scuba Diving

Our good friends own an esteemed dive school right in the neighborhood called Panama Dive School. You can book fun dives and get open water certified or dive master certified at Panama Dive School. Just a quick 5-minute walk from Casa del Fuego.

Snorkeling

There’s plenty of snorkeling right around Casa del Fuego, including right off of our dock on a flat day! Isla Carenero just has some more basic snorkeling, but offers great access to tons of incredible snorkeling nearby, including Hospital Point on Solarte, which is just a quick 5 minute boat ride from our dock. There are endless gorgeous reefs around the archipelago if you are looking for a more advanced snorkeling experience, which our local guide, Ariel, can help you experience by boat.

Hiking

Isla Carenero has an island walking/hiking path that goes around the entire perimeter of the island. This is a great option to experience jungle, beach, waves and local culture all in a ~2 mile loop. There are plenty of places to stop and swim and/or watch the surfers along the way. Nobody will stop you from grabbing an ice cold beverage along the path at one of the beach bars if that excites your island exploration journey! If you want to branch out to other islands, catch a boat from the end of the dock and take a 7 minute boat ride over to Bastimentos for a gorgeous hike leading to some pristine, authentic beaches.

Eating

Several great restaurants are within a few minutes walk from Casa del Fuego:

  • Coquitos – a chilled out beach bar serving awesome pizzas and tacos. One of our favorite local hangouts.
  • Bibi’s on the Beach – over-the-water restaurant next door to Coquitos – surfside seafood.
  • Leafeaters Cafe – mainly veggie, vegan and fish plates.
  • Casa Acuario – awesome breakfast spot owned by our great friends.
  • Receta Michilá – African Caribbean cuisine – chef from Bocas, trained in Paris.
  • Aqua Lounge – hostel with a bar, cafe, and nightclub.
